Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC)

International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP)

Accessibility is most effective when it is built into the design process, not applied as a final checklist. In every project, I approach accessibility as part of a connected system that includes structure, visual design, interaction patterns, and content clarity.

My audits reflect that same philosophy. I combine standards-based evaluation with user-centered analysis to identify structural, visual, and interaction barriers in digital learning and web content. Rather than simply flagging issues, I prioritize findings based on impact and provide clear, practical remediation guidance that teams can implement within their existing workflows.

The goal is not just compliance. It is sustainable, scalable accessibility that improves the experience for a wide range of learners.

Whether reviewing early drafts or fully developed content, I examine how structure, design, and interaction work together to either support or limit access.

My Approach

Scope & Context Review

I begin by identifying the purpose of the content, target audience, and delivery environment. Understanding context ensures that findings are grounded in real use cases rather than isolated criteria

Standards-Based Evaluation

Content is evaluated against relevant WCAG success criteria and accessibility best practices. This includes analysis of structure, heading hierarchy, color contrast, media alternatives, interaction patterns, and navigation logic.

Usability & Interaction Analysis

Beyond technical compliance, I examine workflow barriers, cognitive load, clarity of instructions, and overall usability to ensure access is meaningful and practical.

Prioritization & Remediation Guidance

Findings are categorized by severity and impact. Each issue includes a clear explanation, reference to applicable standards, and specific recommendations for resolution.

Audit Examples

Below are audit reports demonstrating my structured evaluation process, alignment to WCAG 2.2 success criteria, and remediation recommendations for digital learning and web content. These are shared with permission, but identifying information has been redacted to keep it out of SEO.

The following audit also includes personal notes and experience from testing and building with a web-based authoring tool. The creator wanted some feedback from real people testing the tool. These notes and comments are at the end of the document.

Conformance Reporting

As a certified Section 508 Trusted Tester, I conduct accessibility conformance testing using the Section 508 Compliance Reporting Tool (SCRT). Testing results can be used to complete a Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) and produce an Accessibility Conformance Report (ACR). These reports help organizations evaluate the accessibility of digital products and services and are particularly valuable for vendors working with federal agencies or other organizations with accessibility procurement requirements.

Caitlin Bartholic conducted an accessibility audit of my eLearning course, and her audit was informative and valuable. The audit was detailed, clearly identifying accessibility barriers, explaining the challenges these barriers could create for learners, and providing practical recommendations for improvement.

Her ability to explain accessibility requirements in a clear and understandable way helped me better understand the areas I should focus on as an instructional designer. She not only identified issues but also offered multiple solutions to improve both accessibility and overall usability.

Caitlin’s knowledge of accessibility, attention to detail, and learner-centered approach made the audit an invaluable part of improving my course. She is an excellent communicator who kept me informed throughout the process and provided timely updates on her progress.
